where my passion for stage management, set design, and scenic art brings the magic of theatre to life.
My name is Innocent Tshimbufe, born on March 22, 2000, in Harare, Zimbabwe. My life journey, marked by diverse experiences in both urban and rural Zimbabwe, has shaped my profound appreciation for life’s spectrum. I am a dedicated and results-driven Theatre Technician, Stage Manager, Set Designer, and Scenic Artist, passionate about bringing creative visions to life through technical excellence.
My passion for theatre blossomed during my formative years at Prince Edward School, a prestigious boys' boarding school in Africa. This environment instilled discipline, teamwork, and leadership, qualities I honed as House Prefect. I graduated in 2019 with nine Ordinary Level subjects, including Mathematics, Integrated Science, and English, and Advanced Level qualifications in History, Art, and Technical Graphics.
Driven by my ambition to become a theatre set designer and recognizing the limited opportunities in Zimbabwe’s performance industry, I relocated to South Africa. During my 2020 gap year, I demonstrated resilience and self-sufficiency, playing soccer for a community club and working as a construction laborer.
In 2021, I embarked on my tertiary education at Tshwane University of Technology’s Faculty of Arts and Design, pursuing Technical Theatre and Design within the Department of Performing Arts. My dedication and talent culminated in earning both a Diploma and an Advanced Diploma in Performing Arts (Technical Theatre and Design) in 2025, both awarded cum laude, providing a strong academic foundation and hands-on expertise.
My diverse skillset spans Stage Management, Set Design, Scenic Painting, Carpentry, Welding, and Prop Fabrication, honed through practical experience across drama, concerts, dance, musical theatre, children’s theatre, and opera. This breadth of experience allows me to approach productions with adaptability and a keen artistic eye.
I have contributed to high-profile productions at the Breytenbach Theatre, the South African State Theatre, and prestigious festivals such as the TUT Arts Festival (4 consecutive years), the National Arts Festival (2 years), and the Redhill Arts Festival (2 years). These opportunities have refined my technical skills, strengthened my ability to collaborate in high-pressure environments, and deepened my appreciation for the intricate relationship between performance and space.
As a hands-on professional with a strong work ethic, problem-solving mindset, and collaborative spirit, I thrive in dynamic creative environments. I am known for my meticulous organization, excellent communication, and unwavering dedication, and I approach each production with a creative vision and a positive attitude. Passionate about innovation and storytelling, I am eager to contribute my skills to the evolving theatre landscape all around the world.

I am an enthusiastic theatre technician who is a respectful, hardworking, team player, well organized, goal-driven, positive, and honest individual.
As a set designer and scenic artist, I prefer doing research on concepts in order to develop original designs. Draw my concepts based on the research. Develop the drawings into design documents (floor plans, painter's elevation, and a perspective drawing). then render the final designs and build a scale model if necessary. lastly, managing the design from concept to manifestation.
